Chosen Tales: Stories Told by Jewish Storytellers by Peninnah Schram. (1997) (page 93)
Schram has assembled an extraordinary collection of stories by inviting some 68 gifted storytellers to contribute a favorite tale. Amazingly, there is no duplication?although a few stories feature variations on the same theme. Although the stories have Jewish themes, the appeal is universal?for such is the power of a good story. Presented in a style suited for reading aloud, these pieces inspire, entertain, teach, and enchant.

Feathers by Jacqueline Woodson (2007 - ages 9-12)
Nobody knows what to make of the new boy in Frannie’s class. Not only does he look different, but he’s kind to everyone, he refuses to fight, and he doesn’t even seem to mind when the other kids nickname him Jesus Boy. But as winter progresses, Frannie realizes that she’s starting to see a whole lot of things in a new light: her brother’s deafness, her mother’s fear, her friend Samantha’s faith, their classmate Trevor’s anger, and her own desire for hope—“the thing with feathers.” And it’s all because of this new boy.

Yettele's Feathers by Joan Rothenberg. (1996 - Ages 4-8)
Yettele Babbelonski loves to gossip. With a perfect view of the town and nothing to do all day, how can she help herself? Rothenberg's moral tale has a warm, comic quality. . . . Characters are drawn with broad, humorous strokes, and the town is a happy jumble of people, buildings, trees, and sky.

When Turtle Grew Feathers: A Tale from the Choctaw Nation by Tim Tingle (2007 - ages 4-8)
Maybe you think you know the story of the big race between Rabbit and Turtle. Think again! In this story from the Choctaw People, Tim Tingle shows that it was not being slow and steady that won Turtle the big race, it was those feathers!!!
