FEATURED BOOK

Aesop's Fables for Children: Includes a Read-and-Listen CD (Dover Pictorial Archives), retold and illustrated by Milo Winter. (Reprinted 2008 from 1919 original)

Reader's comment: This is a complete collection, the fables are fully developed with rich language, and the beautiful illustrations set it above the rest. My nine-year-old son retold one of the fables we read from this book: "Once a dove saw an ant fall into a river. The ant was struggling for safety. So the dove took a piece of hay and swooped down and dropped the hay right by the ant so it could float to safety."

Aesop's Fables by Charles Santore. (1997 - Ages 4-8)
Here are the time-honored fables of Aesop as never seen before. Santore's animals leap off the page in explosions of color, giving messages to ponder and physical beauty to savor. School Library Journal called this interpretation of the classic morality tales " a delight to the eye and ear."

Aesop's Fables by Brad Sneed. (2003 - Ages 4-8)
Brad Sneed brings his zany and creative talents to the world of Aesop. In his signature style of tricky perspectives, amusing exaggerations, and rich, delicate watercolors, his animal characters are beautifully realistic and yet humorously human, as they mimic a wide range of human feelings...and foibles.

Aesop's Fables: Complete, Original Translation from Greek (Forgotten Books) by Aesop. (2007)
Aesop's Fables have become a blanket term for collections of brief fables, usually involving personified animals. The fables remain a popular choice for moral education of children today. Many stories included in Aesop's Fables, such as The Fox and the Grapes (from which the idiom "sour grapes" was derived), The Tortoise and the Hare, The North Wind and the Sun and The Boy Who Cried Wolf, are well-known throughout the world.

Aesop's Fables: Classic Illustrated Edition by Aesop with Russell Ash (compiler) and Bernard Higton (editor). (1990 - Ages 4-8)
This delightful selection of Aesop's parables--some of them universally recognizable, others refreshignly unfamiliar--is magnificently complemented by illustrations taken from a variety of antique editions.

Aesop's Fables (Illustrated Stories for Child.) by Aesop. (1999 - Ages 9-12)
An illustrated collection of traditional moral tales from the Greek slave Aesop.

Aesop's Fables: Plays for Young Children by Albert Cullum. (1993)
Customer: Our homeschool group used this book successfully last year with a group of 40 kids from 1st through 7th grade. Each play is catergorized by number of players required. We further catergorized the plays by number of lines per part. Harder parts went to older students. The set up for each fable is minimal.

Aesop's Fables (Stories for Young Children) by Anna Milbourne with Gillian Doherty (editor) and Linda Edwards (illus). (2005 - Ages 4-8)
Have you ever heard the story of the mouse who saved a lions life? How about the tortoise who won a race? Or the camel who tried to dance? These wonderful stories, told by an Ancient Greek called Aesop over two thousand years ago, are beautifully retold in this book.

Boy Who Cried Wolf (The): A Retelling of Aesop's Fable (Read-It Readers!: Fables) by ERic Blair with Dianne Silverman (illus). (2008 - Ages 4-8)
Even though he's not being honest, a bored shepherd boy thinks it's fun to see the villagers run to help him when he cries, ""Wolf!"" Find out what happens when the villagers no longer believe what he says.

Classic Treasury of Aesop's Fables (The) by Don Daily. (2007 - Ages 4-8)
There are twenty tales, each told through a series of lush, colorful pictures, which end with the simple moral, evoked in a single sentence. Children will love to see what befalls Aesop's cast of creatures that includes dogs, mice, and lions, proving that no one is too big or small to learn a thing or two.

Aesop: Alive & Well by Diane Ferlatte. (2001 CD)
While there is more known about the fables of Aesop than about the man himself, one thing is clear; Aesop set the stage over two millennia ago for all storytellers to follow. His fables have served for ages as examples of wisdom, morals, and lessons for humanity. Although his fables are almost always short and simple, he must be included among the greatest storytellers and teachers of all time.

Aesop's Fables (Junior Classics) by Aesop, retold by Anton Lesser. (2000)

In the Fox, in the Crow, in the Lion, in the Ass who puts on a wolf's skin, we see human kind with all its foibles.
