Story Bag Catalog
The Story Bag; A National Storytelling Newsletter, edited by Harlynne
Geisler, has been published since 1981. There are now 4 items in the
Story Bag Catalog. For more information on any item, go to the website:
www.swiftsite.com/storyteller, e-mail storybag@juno.com, or call
858-569-9399.
1) A Giant, an Imp, and Two Jacks; Harlynne's tape of British children's
fairy tales; is available in either CD or cassette. Recommended by both
Booklist Magazine (March 1, 2001) and School Library Journal (March,
2001) The Star-News newspaper wrote, "Listening to Harlynne Geisler, you
get the impression that she would have loved to be in Alice's shoes when
she tumbled into Wonderland. Almost at once, her enticing voice sweeps
you through the land of make-believe and into a dream world where castles
in the air really do exist."
2) More Ready-to-Tell Tales from Around the World edited by David Holt
and Bill Mooney is a paperback book with 43 stories by nationally known
storytellers. Each tale lists the age level it is suitable for as well as
hints on how to tell it including adding audience participation. A must
for any teacher or storyteller's library!
3) Storytelling Professionally; The Nuts and Bolts of a Working Performer
by Harlynne Geisler is a paperback book. Story Art Magazine wrote, "The
range of topics is truly amazing as is the superb organization and the
very practical approach of the author. From support networks to financial
resources, from organizing stories into themes to setting fees, from
promotional materials to press releases, from IRS to sample performance
contracts, from audience responsibility and reaction to problems that can
arise, Geisler has not 'missed a beat'!"
4) Story Bag; A National Storytelling Newsletter lists more storytelling
events for the U.S. than any other periodical. Every bimonthly issue has
a story and articles on the art of telling written by tellers from all
over the world.

Storyline Newsletter just reviewed my tape A Giant, An Imp, and Two
Jacks: "Here you will find solid versions of four traditional tales, each
with a bit of the wry personality and sly comment of the teller....These
are well chosen versions, told fully and well."

Booklist Magazine reviewed my tape A Giant, An Imp, and Two Jacks:
"Suggested as a listening resource for units on folk- and fairy tales for
elementary-school students and for public library listeners as well."
