King Solomon Builds the Temple
from the Old Testament
Bible-16
|
(Story on the back
of the card)
The great and wise King Solomon began to build
a house to hold the ark on Mount Moriah. The servants of Solomon
and Hiram, king of Tyre, worked together in the forests to cut
down trees for the builidng. Afterward the timbers were brought
to the sea, made into rafts and floated along the shore until
they neared Jerusalem.
Great
stones and timbers were made ready, and Solomon built the house
according to the plans that David had given him. Each stone was
shaped perfectly and made ready to go in the wall before it was
brought to the place where the house was to stand, so that no noise
of a hammer or any tool of iron was heard in the house all the time
it was building.
Solomon
covered the walls with cedar and the floors with pure gold. Two
cherubim stood in the most holy place, facing the wall, with their
wings stretching from one side of the room to the other. Two large
pillars of brass adorned the front of the house. A great brass basin
was brought in to hold water for the priests, ten candlesticks of
gold for light and a table of gold for bread, basins and spoons.
Doors were hinged with gold.
After seven
years, Solomon called in all the elders and wise men of Israel to
Jerusalem for the dedication. The priests carried the ark into the
house and set it under the wings of the cherubim. King Solomon kneeled
down and thanked the Lord for his help in building the house, which
he dedicated to the Lord to serve as his temple where all people
could come to pray and the Lord would hear them.
