Samson and the Philistines - Samson and Delilah
from the Old Testament
Bible-14
|
(Story on the back of the card)
When
the strong man Samson was asleep, Delilah had his hair shaved
from his head, which left him without any strength to fight the
Philistines. She called them in and they chained him, put out
his eyes and shut him up in prison. There they made him turn a
millstone to grind their corn.
After
he had repented his sins and when his hair grew long again, the
Lord gave him back his strength, but the Philistines did not know
this. They gathered together to rejoice because Samson was their
prisoner. They wanted to make fun of him and brought poor, blind
Samson out of prison and set him between two pillars in the house
of their idol. The Philistines crowded the rooms and even the rooftop
to mock him.
Samson asked
the boy who was guiding him to let him lean against the two pillars
that held up the house. The boy did this and Samson prayed to the
Lord asking for strength one last time. He put his arms around each
of the pillars and cried out to the Lord to let him die with the
Philistines. He bent down and pulled the pillars together with all
his might until they crumbled and the house fell, killing great
numbers of Philistines.
Samson died
with them, but the Lord helped him, so that in his death he slew
more of the enemies of the children of Israel than he had slain
in his life. His brethren came and took his dead body and buried
it in his father's sepulchre.
